Daniel Lloyd Blackwelder

Daniel Lloyd Blackwelder was born December 17, 1986 in Hugo, CO to parents Doug and Rhonda Blackwelder. Dan passed away June 2, 2023 while doing yard work at his home north of Genoa, CO.
Dan grew up on the family farm north of Limon, CO where he joined his older sisters Lindsey and Andrea on many childhood adventures. Dan graduated from Limon High School where he was involved in
Badger wrestling and football, band, FFA, 4-H, and numerous other activities. Dan was an accomplished sheep showman and showed the Grand Champion lamb at the Lincoln County Fair numerous times, as well as winning the Master Showmanship contest. From a young age he was a music enthusiast, and especially loved classic rock and the band Ween. Dan taught himself to play the guitar, and while in high school he and some classmates started a band which performed at his high school graduation celebration.
Dan attended Colorado State University where he graduated with a degree in landscape design. While in college, one of his favorite experiences was “studying” (actually, traveling) abroad in Prague,
Czechoslovakia with cousin Tyler. This sparked a love of travel, and he traveled abroad as well as throughout the United States as often as possible.
After graduating college, Dan returned to the farm to work beside his father, whom he called his best friend. Dan also started a family with his wife Anya. Though farming and ranching came naturally to him, his dream was to open a welding shop in Limon. Shortly before his death, he had purchased and remodeled a building and had started a few projects.
One of Dan’s greatest loves was skydiving, a passion he shared with his mother. He had over 1,500 jumps and had become a skilled skydiver. He traveled to numerous places throughout the United States jumping at skydiving events, and always came home with great stories and new friendships.
Dan will be remembered most for his passion for new adventures and experiences, his generosity in helping others, and his love of meeting people. Dan is survived by his parents, his sisters, his wife Anya, and their children Joshua, Vivian, and baby due in October, as well as numerous family and friends near and far. After spending time at His Mansion Ministries in New Hampshire, Dan had developed a relationship with the Lord, and though he will be greatly missed, we know he is enjoying a skydiver’s paradise of a never-ending free fall.
A celebration of life will be held on June 25th from 2-4 pm at the community building in Limon, CO.
